Based on an original idea by Marilyn Perreault, Duos en Morceaux is a project that passes artistic control to eight female directors and choreographers : six from Québec (Alix Dufresne, Annie Ranger, Laurence Emery Castonguay, Marie Béland, Anne Thériault and Sophie Gee) and two from other franco-European countries (choreographer Florence Loison, from France, and director Isabelle Wéry from Belgium). Duos en Morceaux is movement-based performance with spoken text played by 6 actors (two teenagers, 2 people in their thirties, and 2 people in their sixties), where the audience decides the order in which the scenes will be presented. Our narrative through line is a love story, from adolescence to the death of the characters, split up into 18 scenes. Each director will have the task of staging two to three scenes, each four minutes long, using text, and/or choreography. This kind of show invites audience and creators alike to reflect on how we “flashback” or “project forward” in our romantic relationships, while delivering a dynamic live experience where chronology and the story’s through line is constantly changing.
